FISHING SEASONS IN THE BAHAMAS
Fishing on Abaco is not as highly seasonal as in other parts of the tropical world, but it definitely does play a role. For bonefish the peak time is from October through June while there’s good permit fishing through out the year.
Read on for a bit more detail:
FALL
October and November is early season, during this time the famous bonefish spawning aggregation takes place along the Western edge of Abaco.
WINTER
The winter months (December and January) is a pretty good time for fly-fishing in the Bahamas. The average air temperature is slightly cooler (the early mornings can be bit chilly even) but it’s a great time to be on the flats - very pleasant not ‘buggy.’ Fronts do come through from time-to-time, this could bring winds but we are fortunate to have our fleet of skiffs on trailers and have access to a wide range of water and our guides are always able to find a leeward flat.
SPRING
February to May is historically the most popular time to be on Abaco in the Bahamas. During March it can get a little windy as the weather starts warming up, but usually the skies remain clear. During April, May and June it gets a lot warmer.
In broad terms the important thing to remember is that the fishing remains pretty consistent throughout the entire season.
