Back to near-normal
Oct 29th: It’s still very windy – 25mph westerlies that continue to churn the Marls into porridge. Fishing efforts are now confined to Cherokee Sound and the Club beach on the east side, where Archie Macauley caught three bonefish yesterday and Sam Gillespie landed a jack crevalle of 12-15lbs. These two enthusiastic Irish teenagers are setting a fine example with their permanent optimism.
It may be a day or two before things fully return to normal, but the clean-up is nearly finished and the sun is shining most of the time. We have a full house and the new chef John is, um, cooking up a storm. Amidst the clatter of empty bottles, there is a pronounced sense of relief.
Some of the staff were less lucky, with several homes flooded and one roof removed. But everyone seems to view the impact of Sandy as “not as bad as feared”. Let us hope the Americans are saying the same thing tomorrow morning.
