Dec 10th: The strong NE winds and occasional heavy cloud cover continued right through last week, but we had four or five boats out every day and the hardy Irish and New Englanders persevered to good effect. There were just three blank boat days and the best catch of the week fell to Angus Sutherland from Dublin and Tony Hoag from Connecticut, who boated 16 on Friday. Other double-figure catches were made by fellow-Irishmen Peter O’Reilly & Brian Shaw and by Curtis Rand & Mike Bontecou from Connecticut and Rhode Island, respectively.
By Saturday the weather had begun to improve sharply and Richard Philipson from Virginia had a solo catch of 13 and then 7 the next day, fishing with Max.
We now have a bit of a lull before the Christmas house-party group arrives. And today it’s bright but cool – “only” 70F. Time for a bit of fishing on our own account – and to introduce the new chef, Jason, to the piscatorial arts. But he’ll be firing on all culinary cylinders this coming Saturday for a big dinner to celebrate Lucy Mantle’s 21st birthday.
