Giving Thanks For Great Fishing

November 24th: As the USA celebrates the Thanksgiving holiday, we are giving our own thanks for four nice days of fishing. The November/December bonefishing on Abaco can be some of the best of the year with the fish starting to move around in large schools as the waters cool down after high-summer.

On Sunday Bob Shaunessy and Craig Bacher from Calgary in Canada had sixteen bonefish weighing from two to five pounds guided by Ishi, while Alex and Trish Findlater from Ireland had nine bones guided by Donnie, with Trish losing a really big fish after a 15-minute struggle. The next day Jim Pigott from Seattle boated twelve bonefish and had a shot at a sixty-pound tarpon, while Paul and Claire Dingle from Montreal had seven bones and saw three large permit too late to cast at them.

On Tuesday, the Shaunessy/Bacher combination had 18 bonefish guided by Tony, the Findlaters added 12 more guided by Robin and Jim Pigott a further seven guided by Ishi. Then yesterday, in ideal sunny and calm conditions, the four boats that were out had 75 bonefish between them – John & Caroline Hamilton from Wicklow in Ireland top-scored, having hooked 31 and boated 24 while guided by Ishi; the Findlaters took a further 18 guided by Tony; the Shaunessy/Bacher team had 17, guided by Joe; and Jerry and Elizabeth Tone from Ohio had 16, including the biggest of the day, guided by Robin.

A cool front passed through overnight and conditions today are less auspicious, but five boats have taken to the water to justify indulging in the turkey feast being prepared for this evening.
