Patchy Weather But Bones Galore

November 20th: Good catches of bonefish continue despite the highly variable weather. Most fishermen are being caught out each day by numerous and heavy tropical downpours (and by the discovery that the Club’s yellow rain jackets are not actually waterproof). Nevertheless, despite frequently strong winds and all-too prevalent cloud cover, catches have been remarkably good. Happily, the sun always seems to appear in the end to dry out soggy clothing.

Today, Bob Shaunessy and Craig Bacher from Calgary in Canada managed to boat sixteen bonefish up to five pounds in weight and they barely had to move from where they started off the day. The shoals of bones just kept on coming.

Christopher Jarman from London and Club manager Sandy Walker went one better two days earlier with seventeen bonefish, the best of which, taken by Christopher, weighed 6.5 pounds.

Alex and Trish Findlater from Ireland started off their week today with nine fish, but Trish lost an estimated seven pounder which was taken mid-play by a large lemon shark, an intervention that made her revise her decision to go wading.

All in all, the reports are of large and numerous shoals of bonefish but also of testing fishing conditions, with impaired visibility not helped by 20mph winds. When the calm is eventually restored some bonanza days are firmly expected.
